The Incorporated Association of Organists
This is the "umbrella" Association to which many local Organists' Associations (including our own) are affiliated. The I.A.O. organises an annual weeks Conference in the summer, and several regional "Organ Days". It also publishes the admirable quarterly journal Organists Review. The website is at: www.iao.org.uk
The British Institute for Organ Studies
A learned body dedicated to the study of the history of organ building in this country and abroad, and also the study of music written for the instrument. The BIOS Journal, containing a collection of deeply researched articles, is published annually. BIOS also maintains the National Pipe Organ Register, which can be viewed on the internet via links from the BIOS website at: www.bios.org.uk
BIOS also has the care of a major archive of documents relating to organs, including the records of several British organ-building firms, past and present. A number of conferences are arranged annually in different parts of the country.
The Association of Independent Organ Advisers
Founded by the Revd. Canon Dr. Nicholas Thistlethwaite (author of The Making of the Victorian Organ), this association has a number of accredited and expert advisers who operate totally independent of any organ-building companies or diocesan authorities. The Institute of British Organ-Building
Organ-builders who are members of this body are regularly inspected for the quality of their workmanship. The current President is Katherine Venning, company secretary of Harrison & Harrison Ltd., and a list of accredited builders can be viewed on the Institute's website at:

The Royal School of Church Music
RSCM is organised both centrally and locally, with areas corresponding roughly to the Anglican Dioceses in England and Wales. RSCM runs courses for choristers and organists and publishes a wide variety of music.

The Royal College of Organists
As well as being an examining body for both organists and choir trainers, the RCO also arranges courses in various locations round the country. Details of forthcoming events, and of the syllabuses for the College's diploma examinations can be found on the RCO website at:
